The Silverton & District branch of the Central Devon Conservative Association held a successful fundraiser on Friday (9th Sept) at Hayne House. The branch, which also covers Bradninch, Thorverton, Stoke Canon and a number of smaller villages, was re-launched earlier this year following an increase in party membership in the area. Guest speaker Mel Stride MP spoke to a packed event comprising members and supporters and answered a variety of questions including on the economy, Brexit and grammar schools.
Branch Chairman Deborah Custance Baker said:
“I’m delighted that our first event since our re-launch was so well attended and will have raised important funds for our Association’s coffers. Local party membership is on the rise and more people definitely seem to be getting interested in politics. Mel spoke very well on both the national scene and on some local issues and we hope to be holding our next event very soon!”
“It is good to see such a thriving Conservative branch in Silverton again. It is an exciting time to be involved with politics at the moment with a new Prime Minister with such a strong commitment to ensuring that government works for the many not just the few.”
